We had a great time at homecoming although a lot of our favorite people were missing this year :( Here's a shot of a group who were there at the football game (which they won!).

Go Tigers! It was fun to watch the game although it was suuuuper windy – which I'm showing here with my super squinty eyes. yikes!
So some news from my adventures in cooking. Last night I spent almost two hours making parmesan chicken. Whaaat!? Paul said it was delicious in the end, but for real, how am I supposed to maintain that kind of cooking time in my busy lifestyle?! I'll admit it was worth it to see such a happy, FULL husband, but while I was cooking I was not having fun (not to mention all the homework that didn't get done). I'm really actually pretty scared looking ahead to the future. I love Paul so much and I really want to provide and work hard for our little (and someday hopefully bigger) family, but I feel so defeated in this area! Seriously ladies. How do you juggle cooking big, whole, healthy meals with work and school and husbands and kids and friends and life!?
Phewy!
Well I do have something fun to share today. It's an online magazine that my sweet friend and former roommate, Katie sent to me. Some of you may be familiar with "Sweet Paul" the design blog. Well apparently he publishes an online magazine as well, and it is GORGEOUS! Maybe I'm late in the game, but I have loved looking through this little beauty and have even been super inspired by it at work today. Always love a new little treasure found. And of course, how could I not be in love with the name ;)
Hope you all have a lovely evening! I'm off to a mid-week date with my dashing husband :) Lucky me!
i cannot comment much on the "how to make an amazing meal every night while holding down a paying job/attending school" question. back in those days, i really only did that on weekends and it was completely stressful. 7 years in, and staying home with the kids i can make it happen, but i think it's mostly because meals are my main creative outlet (since i can justify the time/expense since everyone consumes it ;) and really, it's not as stressful now that i have a ton of failures under my belt! don't feel like you need to figure it all out right away - you're doing GREAT! love your posts!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehey mariel! i love your blog & appreciate your honesty about the difficulties of juggling everything. let me tell you - as a working wife with a hubby VERY busy with dental school, i've struggled recently trying to "do it all!" i love to cook but know that i don't have the wherewithal to whip up something creative and filling and wonderful every night so i make it my goal to do that every other night. i'm a big proponent of meal-planning for the week (for keeping your grocery bill lower and avoiding multiple trips to the grocery store during the week) - plus it's a no brainer at the end of a long work day. no more... 'what should i make for dinner tonight?' then i just cook a big meal every other night and we eat leftovers on my "off" night. matt has a big appetite so usually if a meal will feed 6-8 normal people, we'll eat it for 2 nights! also - i try to cook a big meal on the weekend (in the winter i usually make a big pot of soup on sunday) and then freeze the leftovers for later. good luck! you'll get into a routine before you know it!
ReplyDeleteI am SO with you. I work full time and it's so hard to do all of that AND cook dinner. Frozen dinners usually end up being staples. I just found your blog and am a new follower btw. :) Head over my way?
